Additional Information: As the name implies, Lochearnhead stands at the head of Loch Earn, a 6.5 mile long east-west aligned loch which today forms one of Scotland's most important centres for inland watersports: water skiing, canoeing and sailing. The remains of a crannog, a building on an artificial island near the loch's south west corner, shows there has been settlement here for at least two thousand years. The nearby (private) Edinample Castle, parts of which may date back to the 1300s, suggests a continuity of occupation in this important location ever since. Lochearnhead lies at the western end of Loch Earn, and is a centre for both fishing in addition to the water sports. The property has stunning views across the loch to Edinample Castle, rebuilt by 'Black' Duncan Campbell of Glenorchy in the 17th century, and down the loch eastward to the village of St Fillans and Ben Vorlich. This is a popular climb and the views from the top are spectacular. Lochearnhead stands some 14 miles north of Callander on the A84 trunk road. Stirling is 29 miles. The village contains two hotels, several guesthouses, an Episcopal Church, and a Watersports Centre. The centre of Lochearnhead is marked by the road junction between the A84 from the south and the A85 from Crieff and the east. The property includes riparian rights (rights of fishing) for trout fishing, and has a stream running through it towards its eastern end.
Directions: The property is situated at the eastern end of the village on the southern side of the A85 road to Crieff and Perth. The village can be reached by travelling north from Stirling on the A84 and turning right at the junction with the A85 (it lies about half a mile from the junction on the right hand side), or west from Perth on the A85, on the left a few hundred yards after entering the village. It is approximately situated between the neighbouring properties of 'Earnbank' and 'Briar Cottage'.
